Getting Started as an Administrator
The administrator(s) of a company have many responsibilities that are locked from normal users. This page describes the basic tasks required of administrators.
Users and Groups
Currently, you have to add all your users manually using the form provided. Click the button
to see it. Notice that we restrict the number of users available. In this case, you can add more than two more users, but only the first two will be active (able to login). All created users will receive an email with their automatically-generated password, but only the active users will be able use them.
If you select the “Edit CSV” button, you can paste users in the form “firstname, lastname, email” e.g.:
john, smith, john.smith@strategyblocks.com mary, brown, may.brown@strategyblocks.com
Company
The company administration page lets you tweak some of the basic company settings:
- Company Name: This is your name for the company. It shows up in some emails, and in the toolbar next to your name.
- Time Zone: The dates used in StrategyBlocks are granular by day, but if your company is dispersed across multiple time zones, there can be confusion as to when your end-of-day happens (e.g., midnight in Auckland is 21 hours ahead of Vancouver). This setting tells our internal calculations when the turn of day happens.
- Strong Password: By default, unselected. When selected, this enforces restrictions on your users' passwords: “must be at least 8 characters long, with a mix of numbers, uppercase, lowercase, and at least one special character(~!@#\$%^&*). For example: !qwdeTT3 is a valid password”
- Saved Login Duration: When not disabled, this allows your users to save their authenticated session for the duration specified.
- Default Progress Rollup: This controls the default method of weighting your progress rollup from child blocks to parents. Read more.
- Default Linked Rollup: This controls the default method of weighting your progress rollup from linked descendant blocks to parents. Read more.
Capabilities
The capabilities feature allows you to globally enable/disable certain parts of StrategyBlocks. For instance, if you disable the risk feature, you will no longer see any of the risk-related buttons/options in the product, and risks will no longer be factored into the blocks' health calculations. However, any existing risks will be preserved in case you wish to enable the feature at a later date.
Focus Areas
Focus areas are hierarchical categories for your business. See the userguide for more information.
If you are an administration, you can edit these focus areas. Select the ”+” icon to create a new child focus area under the one you selected. “All” is by default the root of the structure, but you can edit the title and description of any by selecting the pencil icon. Clicking the red circle icon will delete the focus area, but only if it's not being used by any blocks or kpis.
The focus areas also support drag & drop for reorganization – you can move all except the all or root focus. As you drag, you will see a number of different drop zones. Your target drop focus area will have a light-blue border.
Before / After
The selected row will show a black bar above (before) or below (after). Dropping here means you are reordering at the same level. In the example, Enterprise will be placed at the same level, and before, Sustainability.
Child
The selected row will be highlighted in yellow. This means you want to nest your focus area below the selected row. In this example, Enterprise is going to be placed as a direct child of People. (If it already has children, Enterprise will be the first.)
Updates are made asynchronously and the structure is mostly aesthetic, so feel free to experiment with structure and order until you are satisfied. It can also be changed any time.
Levels
StrategyBlocks works by breaking your vision into finer levels of detail so that each lower level fully describes the high-level activities above it. Each of these levels can have a title. See the userguide for more information.
In the administration page for levels, you can edit the title, color, and order. You can only delete levels if your total number is more than the number of structural levels required to display the blocks. If you have 6 levels of blocks, and add a child at the bottom, a new level will be created for you called “Level 7”.
You can customize the color of the label, as it's shown in the blocks tree.
Health
This page allows an administrator to customize the parameters of the health calculation.
Risk
The administration pages for risk allow you to customize the basic foundation of your risks. You can set the regions, consequences, and definitions for your risk profile. You can control the health impact and labels for each of the levels, and you can change the size from 5×5 to 3×3, and vice-versa.
For more information about risk, see the userguide.
